Chandigarh,  Nov 2

Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh formally quit the Congress on a sour note. In a letter addressed to AICC president Sonia Gandhi,  whom he had hosted during her early wedding days along with Rajiv Gandhi, recalled his political journey,  a major part of which was dedicated to the Congress.

Capt Amarinder ran into rough weather recently after the Congress high command decided to replace him as a chief minister to make space for PCC president Navjot Sidhu.

Though he had announced to rebel against the Congress soon after,  but he didn't pull his punch and waited for the high command to act against him.

As the high command dithered,  he finally took the call amid rumors that he might be wooed back.

Next thing to watch would be when does he launch his party. Last time,  he had left the Congress in the wake of the Operation Bluestar when he was an MP from Patiala.
