Chandigarh: Taking strong exception to the manner Guru Granth Sahib was made part of the violent demonstration staged by Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Harpreet Singh has constituted a sub-committee to study the matter and submit a report within a fortnight.

The sub-committee would submit a report within a fortnight and submit its observations as to how and why Guru Granth Sahib be made part of the demonstrations and dharnas.

It may be recalled that a group led by Amritpal Singh had taken the "beed"of Guru Granth Sahib along while staging a protest demonstration against the police for the arrest of Lovepreet Singh, a close aide of Amritpal Singh.

Punjab Police acting DGP Gaurav Yadav later claimed that the police were subjected to being on the backfoot following which the demonstrators randomly used weapons to attack the police force.

The police said they exercised utmost restraint in deference to the respect to Guru Granth Sahib.

That the demonstrators led by Amritpal Singh used Guru Granth Sahib as a shield to attack the police force has been widely condemned by the people in Punjab.
